Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire's musical treasure, Closer Than Ever returned off-Broadway at The York Theatre Company for 5 months making it one of the longest running York productions. A NY Times Critic's Pick, amNY gives it 4 out of 4 stars, and Michael Riedel of the NY Post raved, "It's polished, witty, tuneful and, if you've hit middle age, unsettling. A pocket-size classic of the American musical theater."
When it premiered in 1989, the show spoke to a generation of theater-goers. An intimate musical about love, friendship, security, happiness and holding onto those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once. Closer Than Ever at the York wasn't merely a revival; it's the homecoming of an off-Broadway classic.
