YANK!
MUSIC BY JOSEPH ZELLNIK /
BOOK and lyrics by DAVID ZELLNIK
YANK! -- set in World War II -- explores some of the behind-the-battlefield stories that don't make it into the history books. This bold new musical examines what it means to be a man -- and what it is to fall in love and struggle to survive in a time and place where the odds are stacked against you. Suffused with songs (swing, big band, boogie-woogie) YANK! is also a love song to Hollywood's "it takes one of every kind" platoon flicks and to 1940s Broadway.

A New Musical About Old Friends
BOOK BY KATHARINE HOUGHTON / MUSIC BY DIANNE ADAMS & JAMES McDOWELL / LYRICS BY KATHARINE HOUGHTON, DIANNE ADAMS & JAMES McDOWELL
This is a significantly revised version of the show read at the York last January. We continue to explore what it was that created and drove the life-long friendship between Madeleine Stern and Leona Rostenberg -- the real-life, world famous rare-book dealers and authors. This revision, however, adds new songs, new scenes and a new telling of the tale. The musical still intertwines present and past. This time, however, we believe it is even more humorous, charming, poignant, passionate and dramatic as it explores the tensions between characters who treat people and books as commodities – as opposed to those who see both as cherished treasures.

Would
YOU like to submit a show for inclusion in the Developmental
Reading Series?
Our mission here at York concerns
musicals only; we do not accept submissions of plays.
A completed script
must
be submitted, as well as a sound recording of at least
most of the songs. If you’d like your materials returned,
you must enclose a self-addressed, postage paid envelope.
As we are one of the only theatres in the country which
accepts unsolicited scripts, we receive around 400-500
scripts per year. We pride ourselves in properly evaluating
each script, which takes time as we have a small staff
and a loyal group of volunteer readers. It generally takes
at least 6 to 12 months to get a script through our entire
process.
Material should be submitted to:
